Look Who's Driving
I can’t believe that our son is old enough to start driving. He has his learner’s permit and will be going for his license next weekend and I’m sure he’ll pass. He is a pretty good driver thanks to his excellent teacher. You can probably guess who that is by the way I said that. My wife certainly wasn’t going to teach him as she has enough trouble as it herself behind the wheel. That is why when we are together unless she is driving me to the emergency room for whatever reason I am the one in the driver’s seat. She has been into more accidents since we have been married than I have in my whole life and we haven’t been married all that long (4 years). Anyways our son Tyler is pretty excited especially since we are buying him his first car.
We always told him that if he did well in school and stayed out of trouble that we would do that for him. He’s been on the honor roll every semester the last couple of years and never gets into any serious trouble so we have to hold up our end of the bargain. I am going to find him something nice but not too nice if you know what I mean. The other part of the agreement was that he would pay for his own insurance and gas which is why he is going to be starting a part-time job soon. I told him he can get cheap car insurance but to make sure he doesn’t put cheap gas in his tank. I told him to stick to the main stations and not use the cheaper ones because of the additives they put in with their gas.
My wife wants to get him something like a Volvo that is very safe but we’ll see what happens. I know they are a little pricey even used so they might be out of our price range. I don’t want to spend too much since this is his first one and all. My brother is selling a car so I might have to go take a look at that one. My first car cost exactly $750. That was about 20 years ago but adjust that for inflation and that is around what I am looking to spend on his. It isn’t like he is going to be driving it much besides going to school and work. Ok well that is about all I had for today. Make sure you check back if you wanted to find out what we decided on for him.
